Autistica is the UK’s largest charitable funder of autism research. Having grown its reach across the UK in the last three years, the charity needed to improve its website to better engage families and individuals affected by autism.
A full website redevelopment including design, build and content creation was undertaken. By focussing on the needs of users, the site is accessible and autism-friendly; from the softer colour palette, to larger type size and the limited use of distracting animation. The design and navigation enable users to easily find what they’re looking for and crucially detailed scientific research is delivered in a way that is interesting and anyone can understand.
A user-centred approach to content has been established, helping the organisation to better meet its goals. In the six months after the site launched, the number of users grew from 41,665 to 61,964 and the average session time increased from one and half minutes to two. Traffic going to pages about Autistica’s research is up from 1.5% to 5.73% and there’s been a 65% improvement in drop-off rates on these pages.
