Ocean plastic is an urgent problem facing our planet; the equivalent of one rubbish truck of plastic is poured into the oceans every minute.
Working with brands to create packaging design, agency Pearlfisher was aware of its own contribution to the waste and was inspired to use design thinking to reduce the negative impact of plastic on the planet. It created a bold and inspiring installation, visualising the plight of a planet drowning in waste.
Employing immersive, experiential design ‘The Pearlfisher Garden’ was just one of 29 gardens selected to exhibit at the globally renowned RHS Chelsea Flower Show, going on to win a coveted Gold medal. A true testament to the power of the garden’s design, as a first time and non-horticultural contender.
‘The Pearlfisher Garden’ highlighted a very real global issue in a thought-provoking way, and received phenomenal media coverage around the world reaching approximately 18 million people through print media and viewed 450 million times online. Pearlfisher’s revenue stream is up 13% year-on-year and it’s the first design agency to join WRAP’s UK Plastics Pact.
